First performed by John McInulty, Town Hall, Paisley,  1 November 1964.

This rhapsodic piece for solo cello, composed in 1964, is a complete re-working of some ideas which first appeared in a film score on the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh which I wrote in the previous year. The piece, tonal and lyrical, falls into three parts. The first part is broadly stated and rather sombre, the central portion is more dramatic, while the last section (in which the cello is muted) is a modified restatement of the opening.  (Thomas Wilson)
