Edited by Elaine Moohan and Kenneth Elliott.

Relieve us O Lord (four voices, MScTB) is a version of Johnson’s Latin Psalm, Deus misereatur nostri, fitted with an English rhyming text. This belongs to the first attempts in England in the 1540s to adapt Latin compositions to English words, and move towards writing music to English texts in a completely chordal idiom.

From Musica Scotica Vol VIII: The Complete Works of Robert Johnson, full volume available here.
