Buxton Orr: Refrains II [download]

£17.25

For clarinet, viola and piano, composed 1971. Written for Julian Farrel, Eileen Engelbrecht and Roger Vignoles to be a companion to the Mozart ‘Kegelstatt’ Trio. Duration: around 12 minutes.

The ‘Refrains’ of the title are those sections in which the basic material of the work is stated in deliberately explicit form and in various symmetrically related arrangements. These Refrains are predominantly slow and reflective, but between the three short cadenzas for each instrument which form the central part of the design, they take the form of brief, very condensed interjections in fast tempi. The work is in one continuous movement.

Computer typeset score (32p) and parts (12p and 8p) saved as pdf files.
