
Job Vacancy - Membership Officer
We’re looking for a Membership Officer to liaise with our composer, musician and organisation members.
There may be scope to grow the role within the organisation, for example by taking on extra projects and responsibilities.

SALARY
£25,000 per annum pro rata plus pension contributions
HOURS
14-21 hours per week plus occasional evening work at events. We operate a flexible TOIL system.
LOCATION
City Halls, Glasgow, Scotland.
This is an office-based position, with some flexibility over the working week.
HOLIDAYS
20 days with 1 extra day per year of employment up to a maximum of 25 days, plus 10 public holidays. (pro rata)
Role Responsibilities
MEMBERSHIP
Maintain and develop relationships with our current membership
Recruit new members through sector research and liaison with other music organisations based in Scotland
Assist in the administration of membership invoices, composer agreements, donations and subscriptions
Facilitate and develop member events in the SMC foyer space: receptions and performances, including any advance preparation, tech set-up and liaising with the City Halls team
Assist in the promotion of members' concerts, events and activities across our social media channels and international networks
Contribute to fundraising for new projects to benefit our membership, such as workshops and masterclasses, liaising with our core funders Creative Scotland and a range of trusts and foundations
Compile the monthly High Notes newsletter by gathering and distributing members' news and researching wider commissioning and competition opportunities
Collaborate with SMC Archive Managers on cataloguing, member archives and online shop entries
Compose webpage and sector opportunities updates.
GENERAL OFFICE ADMIN
Answer enquiries from the music sector and the general public by email, phone and in person, meeting and greeting visitors to the centre.
Assist in promoting Scotland’s music at events and sector meetings.
Skills & Experience
ESSENTIAL
A demonstrable working knowledge of the music sector in Scotland and beyond
Experience of working in a people facing role: reliable, confident and calm in dealing with the general public and a wide range of creatives
Strong organisational skills; including the ability to multi-task, set priorities and manage own time and workload
Confident written and oral communicator, conscientious with strong attention to detail and experience of report writing
Ability to problem solve and use initiative
Willingness to represent the Centre at meetings, events and conferences across the music sector
An ability to adapt to using a variety of software programmes such as MS Office, Canva and Zero accounting.
DESIRABLE
Previous experience of working in a public-facing organisation
Ability to read music
Familiarity with Squarespace or similar CMS website platforms
Experience in the fundraising process for third sector arts organisations
Educated to degree level
Social media experience
