  • Acoustic piano lends itself well to stereo recording.
  • If the room is acoustically poor, then place the mic close to the piano.
  • With a good acoustics room, place the mics further away for a more open sound.
  • Experiment with using two mic's above the centre of the instrument, forming a cross.
  • If one mic is available then good results can still be achieved by locating the mic about 2 feet above the centre of the soundboard and towards the front.
  • It is important to use your ears and experiment with the precise placement of the mic as each piano has different sound qualities and physical characteristics.
