Mandolin

Other string instruments: violin, viola, cello, double bass, acoustic guitar,
electric guitar, electric bass guitar.

  • The mandolin is one of the rarer instruments that musicians may want to record.
  • It looks like a cross between a guitar and violin but is played more like the guitar.
  • The microphone is best situated about 12" away, pointing toward the treble f-hole. The f-holes are similar to those on violin.
  • If the sound hole under the strings is more guitar-style then better results will be achieved if the mic is aimed upward from below the instrument.
  • The mic can be simply moved further away from the mandolin to obtain the desired recording sound.
  • It is important to use your ears and reposition the mic if you are unhappy with the recordings.
