Dunbartonshire Concert Band : In Concert
Genre: Classical
Label: Composer
The Dunbartonshire Concert Band was formed in 1973 and now exists to give a music outlet to talents of amateur woodwind, brass and percussion players living in Dunbartonshire and the greater Glasgow area. As a community group the band participates in concerts throughout the year in venues large and small, both in and out of doors. This debut CD by the Dunbartonshire Concert Band includes music chosen to reflect the band's varied repertoire ranging from pieces specifically composed for wind band to arrangements of both classical and popular music. In support of contemporary composers, "Land of Macleod for wind band" by Dumfriesshire based Marcus Blunt, and Glyn Bragg's arrangement of C Le Thiere's "L'Oiseau Du Bois" are featured. This recording was conducted (and co-produced) by the band's musical director Robert Baxter - a freelance trumpet player and teacher who began his musical life playing in local wind ensembles (including the Dunbartonshire Concert Band) and brass bands in the Glasgow area. Graduating from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 1988, Robert Baxter has developed a career as a soloist, and as an ensemble player has performed with all the major Scottish Orchestras.
