Hugh Sutherland 1930 - 6/08/2000

Artists | Classical | Composers and Arrangers

Born in Glasgow. Educated in Airdrie Academy: then on to medicine at Glasgow University. His National Service was as a medical officer in the R.A.F. After this he became a G.P. in Stranraer and Haggs. He then ventured into Public Health, serving the community as Senior Medical Officer.

Music encompassed his whole life. He was self-taught in Piano and Organ, being church organist at Haggs and Bishopriggs (Cadder Church), and a member of the Glasgow Society of Organists. Early retirement gave Hugh an opportunity to become a part-time student at the RSAMD, where he studied composition. He was an avid reader who loved travelling abroad. He was a quiet, modest man who has left musical footprints on the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
