For the fourth consecutive year, the village of Dores – home to little more than 100 people – was swamped by a seething mass of civilisation hailing from every corner of the UK.

They came not only to see the headliners, Basement Jaxx, Biffy Clyro, Dizzee Rascal and The Prodigy, but to soak up the atmosphere of the biggest music festival in the north and to take in the astonishing views over Loch Ness.

There was also a plethora of beer tents to wander about in, music from 120 acts on seven stages, a Bollywood-style dance floor, a dressing-up tent and speed dating for singletons.

Ross McTaggart, 25, from East Kilbride, said: “I’ve talked to so many people and you get a sense that this is one of the friendliest festivals around. There’s much more room to move about in compared to T in the Park.”
