Michael Short


Michael Short is a composer and retired music educator.


 

Born Bermuda of English & Scottish parentage. Educated at Bristol University, Morley College and London University, he studied composition in Italy with Goffredo Petrassi and in London with Sir Lennox Berkeley.

His music ranges over a variety of genres, for both professionals and amateurs.

Although he has held several academic posts, he now concentrates entirely on composition. Recent works include the cantata A Vision of Winter and a work for choir and wind band The Enchanted Mountain (Lachin Y Gair). He is now working on a cantata based on the life and work of Galileo Galilei.
