This second performance will explore the musical heritage of Glasgow's West End by playing pieces of composers such as Thomas Wilson, Eddie McGuire, John Maxwell-Geddes and Bill Sweeney who have lived and worked there. Horizon Series Concerts
RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Matthew Jones(soloist), Bobby Houlihan(conductor )

National Concert Hall, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin

Aes Triplex is a set of relatively accessible pieces to open and close the concert. The concerto commemorates a great musician and advocate of new music, Charlie Maguire, to whom many of us owe a huge debt of gratitude. The centrepiece of the concert has a Scottish traditional influence and is by Derek's Scottish contemporary Bill Sweeney.

Derek Ball : Aes Triplex 1: Full On
Derek Ball : Le monde des ombres
Bill Sweeney : St Blane's Hill
Derek Ball : Voilà (concerto for viola and orchestra in memory of Charlie Maguire)
Derek Ball : Aes Triplex 3: Valediction
