PRS for Music Foundation presents... New Music 20x12 Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Roberta Invernizzi, Matthew Truscott Turner Sims Concert Hall, Southampton University, University Road, Southampton, SO17 1BJ - £25, concessions £24, Friends £23, students £13 023 8059 5151 / www.turnersims.co.uk [b]The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment[/b] takes centre- stage in the Cultural Olympiad celebrations, with the world premiere of [i]Spinal Chords[/i] by [b]Sally Beamish[/b]. Commissioned as part of [i]New Music 20×12[/i], the piece is set to a text by [b]Melanie Reid[/b], who broke her neck and back during a horse-riding accident in 2010. Melanie has since been writing an inspirational account of her life as a columnist for The Times newspaper and the piece reflects the positivity of Melanie and the immense spirit of the Paralympian movement. The rest of the programme continues the Olympic theme with references to the Movement's home country, Greece and the coming together of nations. The Fidelio Trio Crawford Logan, Darragh Morgan, Robin Michael, Mary Dullea The Tolbooth, Jail Wynd, Stirling, FK8 1DE - £10/£8 01786 27 4000 An exclusive performance of [b]Sally Beamish's[/b] mesmerising setting of the Anglo-Saxon poem [i]The Seafarer[/i] performed by the Fidelio Trio with narration by Scottish actor [b]Crawford Logan[/b] and projections by [b]Jila Peacock[/b]. Afterwards Beamish will join the performers on stage to talk about her work and offer insights for the audience. The concert ends with Ravel's sumptuous Piano Trio in A minor. A work inspired by his native Basque country, it combines the composer's mastery of composition with his palate of intoxicating colour.
