Programme Note
The music in this short piece reflects the various words and abbreviations which can be drawn from the title. The orchestral abbreviation (Fl) and the complete word "Fluting" represent the basic act of playing the instrument although the latter also suggests the decoration on, for instance, a glass (in the central slower section). "Ut" is the old syllable for the C or doh (the tonal centre of this piece), whilst the outer energetic passages of the music owe their allegiance to the word "Fling". By the way "ing" is the Hungarian word for a shirt: this has absolutely nothing to do with the music but its discovery was utterly satisfying.
