Programme Note

A Behemoth is variously described as'a gigantic beast' (particularly in its appearance in the book of Job where it was probably a hippopotamus), and as 'a huge or monstrous person or thing'. This short piece is my own rant against the proliferation of wind farms and the aesthetic vandalism resulting from the inappropriate placing of 400 foot high alien monster turbines in some of the most beautiful areas of Scotland. In particular I resent the lies pedalled by the companies who promote them especially the one about them not being noisy when in reality they are pervasive and penetrating sound polluters. I don't normally write ugly music but here I have tried to create ugliness and noise in equal measure although, in the quieter central section, the land itself tries to make its lamenting voice heard.
