Programme Note
`Arlecchino' is a short piece lasting about two minutes for solo guitar, commissioned by Oxford University Press for inclusion in a new volume `Modern Guitar Music' (Eight Pieces by British Composers), edited by Hector Quine. The requirement was for a piece `of no more than medium difficulty, but at the same time should appeal to serious students after playing the instrument for say two years. The standard should certainly not be virtuoso `Bream' standard'. (Christopher Morris, Music Editor, 17/4/68) . `The pieces will be short i.e. not more than two facing pages (Christopher Morris, 9/4/68).
The title refers to Arlecchino in La Commedia del Arte.
