resolve- v.t. to separate in component parts: to make visible the derails of: to break up, to transform: to determine: to make a discord pass into a concord.
This work derives entirely from two consecutive seventh chords which are fighting to find some sense of resolution. They meander throug harmonic paths which take them into strange and hostile pitch fields. There they are laid bare, their intrinsic properties, indeed their true characters, opened and exploited, but always in hushed tones. It is only in the last bar that the tension is resolved.
