Iain Matheson

Born Plean, brought up in Glasgow. Studied composition at Glasgow University with George Newson and Lyell Cresswell. After completing his studies he worked as pianist / composer with a theatre group, and piano teacher in schools. He now lives in Edinburgh. His work includes instrumental, chamber, vocal and orchestral music; it has been performed throughout the UK – at the Bath Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Spittalfields Festival as well as in Europe and New Zealand. His scores refer more or less directly to time as the medium in which music presents itself, exploring memory and the passage of time before any other expressive intention.
