EMS is funded by the Scottish Arts Council to support the network of music clubs, music societies, arts guilds and other organisations which are run by volunteers throughout Scotland. This network of voluntary music promoters is the most important outlet in Scotland for live concerts of classical and contemporary chamber music.
In 2004-05 EMS promoted 369 concerts by outstanding musicians, enjoyed by a total audience of over 40,000. This is in line with past successes and future expectations.
EMS achieves this by:
* giving financial support to promoters through grants and guarantees against loss
* publishing the Scottish Tours Book, which lists details of performers planning Scottish tours
* holding the annual Tours Conference each November to help performers and promoters coordinate tours
* running an educational programme of music workshops for schools. EMS is also proposing a Residency Programme for outstanding young musicians
