"When I went to my mother's ancestral area of Donegal for the first time, I saw the ruins of the old family cottage and then visited the little dancehall, off an isolated country road, that my grand-father had built before the First World War. This inspired my air "The Thatched Houses at Croagh" and the 9/8 Slip Jig, "The Old Ruined Dancehall" - which conjures up the spirit of the dances long gone."
