College of Piping presents... An Evening of Uilleann Piping with Pat McNulty West End Festival Pat McNulty, Edward McGuire College of Piping, Glasgow Glasgow born Pat McNulty has long been one of Britain’s finest exponents of the Uilleann Pipes - the traditional Irish bagpipe. This was recognised back in 1984 when he received the Irish Post Community Award, and more recently by the Peoples’ Palace in Glasgow filming up to 3 hours of interviews with him on his life’s work. He was brought to the attention of a wider public when he became the first uilleann piper to perform with an orchestra - at the BBC Proms 1969 in Celtic Requiem by John Tavener. He has made several recordings and a book of his own compositions for pipes. As a research scientist he designed improved instruments, becoming a Fellow of the Makers and Researchers of Historic Instruments. He will perform a selection of his pieces as well as traditional music and talk about his life and times - in conversation with Eddie McGuire. Eddie - composer and flute player with The Whistlebinkies - will also play, on bamboo flute, a couple of Pat’s compositions, the air Inisheer and slow reel In Monaghan. |
