Live Music Now Scotland

“Music…is the language which penetrates most deeply into the human spirit, reaching people through every barrier, disability, language and circumstance.”

YEHUDI MENUHIN, LMN FOUNDER

Live Music Now was founded by legendary violinist Yehudi Menuhin in 1977, along with his close friend and philanthropist, Sir Ian Stoutzker. During the Second World War, Yehudi Menuhin played for the Allied Forces, often in the most challenging of circumstances, and directly experienced how music could benefit those who were sick, lonely, traumatised and reconcile differences between people and nations. Live Music Now was born out of these wartime experiences.

No matter where Live Music Now operates, it continues to keep alive Yehudi Menuhin’s vision of music being accessible to all members of society, regardless of their circumstances, while simultaneously developing the skills of young, talented musicians. LMN extended to Scotland in 1984 and the organisation devolved in 2013 to have its own charitable status.

Putting on over 700 concerts every year, Live Music Now Scotland reaches into the heart of local communities, enabling high-quality live music to reach people who wouldn't normally have access to it. We offer bespoke performances and workshops for older people’s residential and day care centres, adult resource centres, hospitals and schools, especially for children and young people with additional support needs. Our tailored activities are delivered by more than 100 specially selected and trained exceptional emerging artists, working across a range of different genres. We support the musicians to develop sustainable careers through the essential experience of fairly paid performance work as well as offering a portfolio of training opportunities.

Alongside this, our expertise and understanding of how music is vital to emotional, physical and social wellbeing have grown over the years, and the organisation is well established and highly respected in this field.
