Scottish composer Julian Wagstaff has announced the release of a new rock/pop album. Edinburgh band The Firrenes (rhymes with ‘beans’), which Julian formed in 2016, release their record ‘Door Too Wide’ on 9 November 2018 on CD, vinyl and digital formats. A special launch concert takes place in Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms on Saturday 10 November at 7.30pm.

The record is highly collaborative in nature. The core band is joined by composer/singer Luci Holland on vocals, pedal steel player Ricky White, and leading Scottish-based classical players including Michael Beeston on viola and Jean Johnson on clarinet.

The band’s website can be found at www.TheFirrenes.com, and tickets for the launch concert can be purchased here: https://tickets-scotland.com/t1943.

Scottish film director Kallum Corke recently made a video for ‘Heart in a Field’, one of the songs from the album, featuring singer/actress Megan Shandley. It can be viewed on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBDnW3y8Ozc

The song is inspired by the work of the German anti-fascist artist John Heartfield, whose art is referenced in the video.
