For this year’s Young Talent Award Media Music, musicians, composers, game musicians and sound designers up to the age of 35 are invited to compose a theme music for Raymond Chandler’s novel Playback. Playback from 1958 is Chandler’s last complete detective novel with private detective Philip Marlow. For the seventh case, the American author modified his screenplay of the same name from 1949, which was rejected at the time and published after Chandler’s death. Playback is Chandler’s only novel that was not adapted for screen.
The deadline for all applications with audio- and mockup-ﬁles, score for string quartet and a short written explanation about the context and the development of the piece is June 1, 2019. An international three-member jury of experts (Kristian Eidnes Andersen/Denmark, Stephan Eicke UK/Germany and Than van Nispen tot Pannerden/Netherlands) will decide on the winners. The winner of the first prize is invited to attend MSH MediaSoundHamburg including free accommodation and board. Travelling expenses are not included. The first three award-winning pieces will be premiered by the Kaiser Quartett on 14 August 2019at the 9th MediaSoundHamburg in the resonanzraum. The award ceremony is open to the public, admission free.
