Hebrides Ensemble – Scotland’s world-class classical chamber music group led by Artistic Director William Conway – is seeking a new Chair.
With funding confirmed for a programme of top-class festival performances and tours, live-streamed performances, recordings and the beginning of a three-year partnership with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Hebrides Ensemble is looking for a new Chair of the Board.
Our supportive and committed Board members each have a particular focus based on their experience as well as taking overall responsibility for Hebrides Ensemble’s long-term sustainability. Jo Buckley, Michael Devlin, Rachel Lloyd, Gareth Mattey, Peter Muir and Ben Twist have expertise in finance, programming, touring and operations, marketing and education and together support William Conway and our General Manager Kate Whitlock.
We hold a minimum of four meetings per year, generally in Edinburgh, and provide additional support between meetings as required. The Chair is responsible for preparing and chairing meetings, for the line management of the General Manager and for board development. As Interim Chair Ben Twist currently meets Kate monthly and Will regularly to ensure that the company develops in line with the Board’s policies and decisions. Applicants for the role of Chair should have previous Board or Chief Executive level experience.
This is a voluntary role, but we pay all reasonable expenses including childcare and travel. The payback is helping a successful and lively company which plays a huge range of wonderful classical music to extraordinary standards and commissions important new work: it’s a thrill to know you’ve played your part!
