2018 Highlights

2018 was another busy year – congratulations to all of you on your many achievements!
Here is a selection of our members’ highlights from the past year:
  • Emily Doolittle‘s work Jan Tait and the Bear was selected for the Made in Scotland showcase at the Edinburgh Fringe
  • John McLeod, Lyell Cresswell, Alastair Savage and Marcus Blunt released new recordings of their works
  • Hilary Brooks‘ musical comedy Melania was premiered in Glasgow in June
  • At the BASCA Composer Awards in November, Sally Beamish was recognised with an Inspiration Award and Oliver Searle was the winner in the category of ‘Amateur or Young Performers’ for his work Microscopic Dances 
  • The wonderful life and legacy of John Maxwell Geddes was celebrated at a memorial concert in April and the Geddes Peterson Foundation was launched
  • Glasgow Music City Tours launched their new tours which explore the music scene in Edinburgh
  • Jill Rodger from the Glasgow International Jazz Festival was the recipient of the Services to Jazz award at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards
  • Henry McPherson‘s opera Maud, commissioned by Scottish Opera, was given its first performance as part of Opera Sparks in April
  • There were many premieres for our composers including Jessica Danz‘s The Ballad of Muriel Spark, John McLeod‘s Scottish Chamber Orchestra commission Nordic Fire, and Songs From the Marshes by Rory Boyle which was featured at the JAM on the Marsh festival
  • Martin Suckling collected bell sounds from all over Scotland which were featured in his piece Meditation (after Donne), commissioned by the SCO to mark the 1918 Armistice Centenary
We also welcomed several new members in the past year.  We’re delighted to be working with Ben Lunn, Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Jessica Danz, Sarah Summers, Chris Belsey, Helen MacKinnon, Ancuta Nite and Brian McAlpine.
