Scottish composer Julian Wagstaff has announced the release of a new rock/pop album. Edinburgh band The Firrenes (rhymes with ‘beans’), which Julian formed in 2016, released their record ‘Door Too Wide’ on 9 November 2018 on CD, vinyl and digital formats.

The record is highly collaborative in nature. The core band is joined by composer/singer Luci Holland on vocals, pedal steel player Ricky White, and leading Scottish-based classical players including Michael Beeston on viola and Jean Johnson on clarinet.

Scottish film director Kallum Corke recently made a video for ‘Heart in a Field’, one of the songs from the album, featuring singer/actress Megan Shandley. It can be viewed on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBDnW3y8Ozc

The song is inspired by the work of the German anti-fascist artist John Heartfield, whose art is referenced in the video.
