Born in Dundee. Studied compostion with John Paynter and David Blake at York University (1983-86, 1988-91). Recent works include 'Impersonal Stereo' for wind quintet, 'Cash' for saxophone quartet, 'Lame God' for free-bass accordion, 'On E' for orchestra, and 'Handguns: A Suite' for large ensemble. Commissions have come from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, ECAT, Paragon Ensemble, and Glasgow University. He is currently head of composition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
