Scottish Borders Community Orchestra

Artists | Classical | Chamber Orchestras

Amateur, community orchestra. Leader, Lucy Cowan. Open to all musicians Grade 5 and above. Inaugural concert was in the Volunteer Hall in Galashiels on March 23, 2001.

Scottish Borders Community Orchestra was originally set up with the overall aim of enriching the musical life of the Scottish Borders. Since its inception in 1999, SBCO has created many opportunities for players of all ages and abilities to make music together, with the support of professional musicians both from the Borders and from further afield; and has taken live music to audiences throughout the Borders and occasionally elsewhere. Each year SBCO organises at least two orchestral concerts, a number of smaller scale performances, a series of tutored sessions for instrumental groups, occasional workshops, and an outreach programme that takes live music to children and to the elderly in particular.
