Marie Dare 1902 - 1976

Born Newport-on-Tay, Fife. Studied cello at Guildhall School of Music in London, then on to Paris for further study with Paul Bazelaire, and composition with Benjamin Dale. She performed widely in Europe as a recitalist, and after the Second World War became principal cellist in the Reid Orchestra, Edinburgh and taught at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music. Her compositions include solo and choral works, both secular and sacred, and some chamber and orchestral music. (1995)
