Marina Adamia

Born Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. Studied composition from an early age under the supervision of Nodar Mamisashvili. Following a period at Tbilisi Conservatoire, she was taught at the Moscow Conservatoire by Nikolai Sidelnikov and Edison Denisov. Compositions range from solo pieces to works for full orchestra; they have been performed in Georgia and other former Soviet Republics, Denmark, Germany and the UK. Since 1992 she has been at Edinburgh University, studying for a PhD in composition under the supervision of Nigel Osborne and teaching composition to undergraduate students. Works include Science Fiction (1994) for saxophone, cello and piano (for ECAT), The Birth of Enkidu (1995) for the Edinburgh University Chamber Orchestra and Aria for Strings (1998) written for the Edinburgh Quartet.
