Mark O'Keeffe

A native of County Cork, Ireland, where he began his musical studies as a pianist at the age of seven. It was only after playing in the local brass band and recieving trumpet lessons from his father that his love of the trumpet developed. After taking formal lessons at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, Mark was in 19912 chosen as the winner of RTE's 'Musician of the Future' competition. Upon his return to Ireland he was appointed Associate Principal Trumpet of the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. He is now the principal trumpet of the BBC SSO, and has appeared as a soloist with the orchestra on a number of occasions. He is also a committed chamber musician and teacher at RSAMD where he is also a part-time doctoral student in trumpet performance.
