The Scottish Flute Trio

The Scottish Flute Trio, Laura Bailie, Janet Larsson and Ruth Morley, has been commissioning new work since 1996. They have performed at major festivals including the Edinburgh International Festival and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, they have broadcast live for Radio 3 and Radio Scotland as well as playing concerts all over the country. They have worked with leading composers such as Thea Musgrave, Gordon McPherson, Edward McGuire, Javier Alvarez, Robert Dick, Peter McGarr and Kenneth Dempster.

Alongside concerts and recitals the trio have been exploring new ways of presenting contemporary music. They have put sound installations into The Lighthouse in Glasgow and the Tolbooth in Stirling to present music as public art. They have also worked in collaboration with visual artist Liz Ogilvie and composer and Taiko Drummer Joji Hirota to explore the presentation of new music in an environment created by the artist. The trio’s CD Feasibility Studies is released on the Metier Label, their recording of Gordon McPherson’s triple flute concerto Bloodshake will be released in 2008 and their recording of Madame de Shanghai by Luc Ferrari is available at www.seventhings.co.uk.
