Rebecca Rowe b. 1970
Artists | Classical | Composers and Arrangers
Born South Yorkshire. Educated at Hull University and Edinburgh University, studying composition with Alan Laing and Nigel Osborne respectively. She began composing at a young age, but since 1990 has become particulary prolific.
Since moving to Edinburgh in 1992 she has been enjoying regular performances of her work, ranging from orchestral, chamber ensemble, viol consort pieces and solo instrumental through to choral and solo songs.
Various collaborations with theatre and film directors have led to a number of soundtracks and short scores including: Falling Dance (1990), The Anatomy of a Waterfall (1993), The Sound of Taransay (1994). All of these have been shown or broadcast in independent cinema and on national television.
She maintains a strong passion for both contemporary music and that of the renaissance period, being a former conductor-director of Edinburgh University Contemporary Music Ensemble and a founder viola da gamba player in The Squair Mile Consort of Viols who perform regularly throughout Scotland.
Rebecca currently combines writing with her work as a teacher specialising in infant music education and as a music tutor for various adult education centres within Edinburgh. The year 2000 saw her collaborate with the poet Brian Johnstone and the artist Jean Johnstone on a large-scale project which reflects upon and illuminates the lives and influences of six Celtic saints.
